One arrested after car crashes into Hamilton Elementary

A car crashed through the western fence of Hamilton Elementary School, striking the west side of the building just before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to police.

Before hitting the school, the driver — identified as 28-year-old Marco Antonio Flores of Rock Island — was reportedly seen traveling southbound in the 3100 block of 7th Street. As the vehicle approached the intersection of 7th Street and 32nd Avenue, it entered the eastbound left-turn-only lane but failed to slow down.

Police said the car continued straight into oncoming traffic in the westbound turn lane, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the school building.

Flores was arrested on DUI charges, and officials notified school staff about the damage. The building was later secured.

The Moline Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
