One Dead, One Critically Injured After Police Chase Ends in Indiana Crash

A woman died and a man was critically injured after a police chase ended in a crash early Friday morning, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

Officers from the Southwest District began the pursuit around 3:30 a.m. after running the license plate of a vehicle near West Troy Avenue and Westbrook Avenue. They discovered that the vehicle’s registered owner had two active warrants — one for theft and another for possession of a controlled substance.

When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over, sparking a chase that ended when the suspect’s vehicle slammed into a tractor-trailer at West Raymond Street and South Harding Street.

The crash killed a female passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services. The male driver was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The tractor-trailer driver escaped injury, and no officers were hurt, IMPD confirmed.

West Raymond Street and South Harding Street were closed for several hours as accident investigators examined the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
