One injured in shooting at Ohio high school football game

OHIO —A high school student was hospitalized after being shot during a football game at Stambaugh Stadium on Saturday night, officials said.

The incident occurred during the matchup between Chardon High School and Cardinal Mooney High School. Stambaugh Stadium is located on the campus of Youngstown State University.

At around 9:39 p.m., YSU issued a campus alert advising students to avoid the stadium, noting that the situation was under control and there was no immediate danger to the public.

Cardinal Mooney High School Principal Brendan Considine confirmed that one student was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. The student is in stable condition and recovering.

“At Cardinal Mooney, we place the safety and security of our students as the highest priority. We join everyone involved in expressing our prayers for healing for our entire school family and our community,” Considine said.

Authorities have not released information on possible suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
