BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) — A Panama City woman was killed in a crash on Highway 77 in Lynn Haven Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Troopers reported that at 2:19 p.m., a 22-year-old woman driving an SUV was traveling north in the inside lane of SR 77. Ahead of her, a 23-year-old Panama City woman was driving a pickup truck with a 16-year-old male passenger.
As the pickup truck turned into a left-turn lane, the SUV — traveling at high speed and partially entering the same lane — collided with the right rear of the pickup truck. The SUV then rotated counterclockwise, overturned several times, and ejected the driver.
The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were not injured. The Lynn Haven Police Department and Lynn Haven Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The crash caused a shutdown of part of Highway 77 near East 24th Street and Peachtree Drive around 1 p.m. Troopers said multiple vehicles were involved, and one ended up upside down. Northbound lanes remain closed as the FHP continues its investigation.
Officials urge drivers to avoid the area, and News 13 will provide updates as more information becomes available.
