Pike County man gets life for parents’ murder

Troopers found Colin Winkler naked on his porch covered in blood

Milford, Pa. — A 33-year-old Pike County man will spend the rest of his life in a state prison for murdering his parents, District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced Wednesday.

President Judge Gregory Chelak sentenced Colin Winkler of Milford to a life term plus 20 years for killing his parents, Jeffrey Winkler and Jacqueline Winkler, at their home on Sept. 24, 2024.

State police previously said Jacqueline Winkler told her other son that Colin was experiencing a “psychotic break.” Colin Winkler then stabbed his parents to death with a kitchen knife, stripped naked, and smeared their blood on his body.

In court, Winkler initially planned to claim an insanity defense, which prosecutors opposed. In April, after a hearing, Chelak issued an order preventing him from using a mental infirmity defense. He pleaded guilty in September to two counts of third-degree murder.

Tonkin noted that state law mandates a life sentence for two third-degree murder convictions.

Winkler remained in custody Wednesday night at the Pike County Correctional Facility.
