Winter usually waits until after Thanksgiving to hit the United States, but this year is shaping up differently.
On Wednesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued warnings for Washington, alerting residents to a potential snowstorm that could bring significant accumulation. Some areas were forecast to receive between 6 and 12 inches of snow.
“Snow is likely,” the NWS advisory stated. “Total snow accumulations between 6 to 12 inches are expected along the Cascade crest and highest points of Highway 20. Travel could be very difficult. Hazardous conditions could impact travelers along Highway 20 from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, as well as Thursday night. Higher snowfall amounts are likely in and around Mount Baker between 8 to 10 inches through Thursday morning.”
The National Weather Service has now issued winter storm warnings for Alaska, Montana, and Washington, with all three states preparing for heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions.
Meanwhile, the NWS is also tracking a separate severe storm system that could affect Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee this weekend.
“A slight risk (level 2 out of 5) of severe storms is possible today into this evening across parts of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys,” the NWS said. “Isolated large hail and severe wind are the main hazards.”
As both storm systems approach, communities across the affected regions are preparing for treacherous weather and urging residents to stay cautious.
We’re keeping everyone in our thoughts and hoping for a safe weekend ahead.
