Davenport, Iowa – A slow-moving storm system will keep parts of Iowa and Illinois damp through the end of the week, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected to spread into more communities by Friday.
The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities says rain chances of 20% to 50% will linger west of the Mississippi River from Wednesday night into Thursday before moving east. The system will first hit areas west of Dubuque and stretch south toward Mount Pleasant, where isolated storms could arrive late at night and early in the morning.
Despite the rain, temperatures will stay warm — reaching the upper 80s to low 90s on Thursday — before easing into the 70s and low 80s on Friday. Overnight lows will dip into the 60s, offering some relief but also providing fuel for storm development.
Travelers should stay alert for changing conditions, especially on rural highways and farm roads where brief downpours may create slick spots. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and review weekend plans, as scattered storms may interrupt activities.
Showers and storms are expected to persist through Friday, with additional updates likely if the system strengthens or shifts.
