DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – We can expect a moderately cooler pattern during the final days of summer. The drop in temperatures comes mainly because rain is returning to the forecast today and will continue into the start of fall.
Showers between tonight and Saturday night will likely bring around a quarter of an inch for most areas. By Sunday evening, scattered showers will increase, bringing more areas to half an inch or even three-quarters of an inch.
Although the rain might disrupt outdoor weekend plans, it is a welcome relief for Central Illinois after more than two weeks without measurable precipitation.
In yesterday’s Climate Prediction Center drought monitor update, the area under severe drought grew by 15% over the past week. Similar increases were seen in regions under moderate drought. Fortunately, the long-term forecast shows plenty of rain ahead.
