San Francisco Bay Area Warned of Hazardous Beach Conditions and Minor Coastal Flooding Through Saturday

The San Francisco Bay Area faces ongoing hazardous beach conditions through Saturday morning, prompting officials to urge residents and visitors to stay away from the water and avoid all coastal infrastructure. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco Bay Area, strong rip currents, high surf, and dangerous waves are expected to persist along all Pacific Coast beaches. The agency warned, “Never turn your back on the ocean!”

The threat of minor coastal flooding has also risen, fueled by the recent Supermoon on November 5, which triggered unusually high tides. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. PST Saturday, with low-lying coastal areas at particular risk. Officials caution residents to stay alert and prepared for rapidly changing conditions near the shore.

In addition, light rain showers are forecast to continue impacting the North Bay and San Mateo Peninsula Coast through Friday, while much of the rest of the region is expected to stay dry. However, forecasters note that an unsettled weather pattern could develop next week, potentially bringing more widespread changes across the Bay Area.

By the weekend, weather conditions should gradually improve as a ridge builds across the eastern Pacific, bringing drier air and warmer temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to mid-80s. Still, the Beach Hazard Statement will remain in effect through early Saturday, as rip currents and sneaker waves continue to pose dangers for beachgoers.

The marine forecast also warns of very rough seas through Friday, with small craft advisories issued for several coastal zones. Conditions are expected to slowly ease beginning Sunday. The NWS advises mariners and recreational sailors to monitor local forecasts closely and postpone ocean activities until seas become more favorable.

In short, while clearer and warmer weather is on the horizon, the next few days demand caution from anyone near the Pacific coastline.
