Seven Davenport schools listed among Iowa’s worst-performing

DAVENPORT, IA – Seven Davenport schools have been identified on a state list of schools needing comprehensive improvement.

The schools include Garfield, Jackson, Jefferson, and Madison elementaries; Frank L. Smart and Williams middle schools; and Mid City High. These schools either scored in the lowest 5% statewide or have graduation rates below 66%.

District Superintendent T.J. Schneckloth said Davenport schools are returning to pre-pandemic performance levels and are increasing their focus on improving literacy skills.

In the Iowa QCA, the state report card shows that at least 23 schools did not meet basic proficiency standards.
