INDIANA — A 22-month-old child was found dead late Wednesday night in a Shelbyville driveway, and the child’s mother has been arrested on child neglect charges, police said.
According to the Shelbyville Police Department, officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to the 900 block of Hale Road, a housing development off Miller Avenue near the Big Blue River, after receiving a report of an unresponsive child.
Police said they arrived to find 22-year-old Sophie Igou outside with her child lying in the driveway. Officers attempted first aid but determined the child had already died.
Detectives were called to the scene, and Igou was taken into custody for neglect of a dependent causing death. An autopsy has been requested to determine the cause of death, though police have not said when it will be completed.
Formal charges have not yet been filed. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Fred McConnaughey or Detective Mark Newman at 317-392-5106.
