Showers and storms return this afternoon

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -The rainy pattern continues this afternoon, with a chance for strong thunderstorms.

After overnight showers, Central Illinois will begin the day with partial sun and calm conditions. Temperatures will rise into the mid-80s before scattered showers move in this afternoon. The early warmth and sunshine could spark a few isolated thunderstorms later in the day.

Some thunderstorms this afternoon may bring strong gusty winds and heavy downpours, causing ponding or isolated flash flooding. Use caution on the roads today and avoid driving when rain is coming down heavily.

Rain will persist overnight and into tomorrow morning. In total, the area could receive between a half-inch and an inch and a quarter of rain, a welcome change after weeks of little to no rainfall.
