South Florida pharmacist charged with forging dozens of prescriptions, deputies say

ISLAMORADA, Fla. — A South Florida pharmacist faces more than 80 felony charges after allegedly forging dozens of prescriptions for herself and her family members, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

Deputies said CVS Pharmacy contacted them in September, reporting that 59-year-old Chandra Teerie was creating fake doctors’ prescriptions for non-controlled substances. The pharmacy chain estimated the fraudulent prescriptions cost them over $8,500.

Teerie, a Homestead resident and licensed Florida pharmacist since 2004, was arrested Wednesday at the CVS store on 82894 Overseas Highway in Islamorada.

While MCSO did not release specific details about the forged prescriptions, jail records show Teerie faces 85 felony counts, including insurance fraud, forgery, grand theft, and drug-related offenses.

She was no longer listed as an active inmate Thursday morning, according to MCSO records. Teerie is set to be arraigned Nov. 12 in a Florida Keys courtroom.
