Starving Puppy Rescued Near Nebraska City Adopted by Capital Humane Society Executive Director

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — Zephyr, the puppy found severely malnourished in a field near Nebraska City in late September, has found her forever home.

The Capital Humane Society (CHS) announced Tuesday that Executive Director Matt Madcharo and his family have officially adopted Zephyr.

Madcharo’s family took Zephyr in shortly after her rescue, when she was on the brink of death due to starvation. At just nine months old, she weighed only 12 pounds.

In October, Madcharo told 10/11 that it had been amazing to watch Zephyr’s progress, including taking her on a hiking trip to Arkansas.

“He couldn’t resist Zephyr’s charm, and she has settled into his home like she’s lived there forever,” CHS wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. “She loves snuggles, cuddles, and playing with her BFF, Bella!”

CHS said Zephyr will spend her days at day care with Bella and a group of new friends before returning home each evening.
