Three Broward school employees charged over illegal use of basketball courts

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Three Broward County Public Schools employees are facing fraud and theft charges connected to the illegal use of basketball courts, according to records.

Broward Schools Police officers arrested a third suspect as part of the fraud investigation.

The employees, identified as athletic coaches David Calloway, Henry McNabb, and Brenton Hankerson, are accused of fraudulently renting public school facilities.

Calloway, 50, coached a girls’ basketball team.

The Broward County School District said Broward Schools Police detectives are actively investigating the cases.

“The Superintendent maintains a zero-tolerance stance on public corruption, and both employees will be subject to termination,” BCPS spokesman John J. Sullivan said in a statement referring to McNabb and Hankerson.

The investigation began after Delvin King, principal of the Youth Under Construction Youth Center in Pompano Beach, reported the issue when an illegal rental conflicted with a legitimate event.

King said he confronted McNabb, 42, over a double booking at Blanche Ely High School’s basketball gym.

“I came in, and there was a whole basketball tournament going on,” King said. “There was nothing on the calendar. I am the only person that rented the gym.”
