FLORIDA — Authorities have arrested three teenagers accused of using fake cash at multiple businesses in Pinellas County.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on October 24 after shop owners in Johns Pass reported two suspects attempting to spend counterfeit bills.
Deputies identified the suspects as James Perry, 18, and Benjamin Warshowsky, 19, who allegedly tried to exchange four fake $20 bills at the Spice & Tea Exchange on 129th Avenue East. Nearby stores soon reported similar incidents.
Investigators later linked a third suspect, Myles Dorris, 19, and discovered that the group had altered the counterfeit bills and planned to take their scheme to Georgia and Tennessee.
When detectives attempted to contact them, Warshowsky fled on an electric bike and Dorris ran on foot, but both were quickly apprehended. All three were booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
Deputies recovered nearly $20,000 in counterfeit currency during the arrests. The investigation remains ongoing.
