Authorities have identified the three teenagers who died Monday night in a two-vehicle crash on North Federal Highway in Pompano Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The victims were 18-year-old Richard Manuel Alcocer, 16-year-old Miguel Montez, and 15-year-old Ruben Baltazar. All three were transported to Broward Health North, where they were pronounced dead.
The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Federal Highway.
Investigators said a 2024 Acura Integra, driven by Fabiola Groves, was exiting a shopping plaza near Northeast 18th Street and making a right turn to head south on North Federal Highway. At the same time, a 2014 white BMW M5 was already traveling south on the roadway.
Deputies said the BMW struck the raised concrete median, causing Alcocer, who was driving, to lose control of the vehicle.
The BMW then collided with the Acura, spun across the roadway, and jumped the curb on the west side. Investigators said the car crashed into a bus stop before slamming into a concrete light pole and a tree.
The Acura came to rest in the left-turn lane. Damage to the vehicle indicated it was struck along the front driver’s side. Authorities said the driver and passengers in the Acura were not injured.
Montez and Baltazar were passengers in the BMW, officials said.
Fire rescue crews worked to remove the teenagers from the BMW following the crash.
Deputies said excessive speed by the BMW’s driver is considered a possible contributing factor.
