An investigation is underway in Florida City after the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported that a man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a truck while crossing the street early Thursday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, Florida City police officers responded to reports of a traffic crash with injuries on Krome Avenue near 8th Street just after 4:30 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the man was in his wheelchair when he was hit by a truck while attempting to cross the road.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene, officials said.
Authorities reported that the truck’s driver stayed at the scene and called 911 for help.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. No additional details were immediately available.
