Two people accused of stealing an all-terrain vehicle were arrested after leading deputies on a chase that ended in a crash, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Michaela Mullin and Caleb Rachel stole an ATV from a local business. On Saturday, an Arcadia Police Department officer spotted the stolen vehicle and alerted DeSoto County deputies about its direction of travel.
Dash camera footage released by investigators shows the pair riding the ATV on the wrong side of the road as deputies followed nearby. At one point, a deputy attempted to block their path, prompting the ATV to leave the roadway and crash into a ditch. Both riders were thrown from the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said Mullin and Rachel tried to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended.
Both suspects were charged with grand theft motor vehicle. Deputies confirmed the stolen ATV was recovered and returned to its owner later that night.
