DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) — Two people have died following an officer-involved shooting at the Odd Fellows bar in Dubuque.
The Dubuque Police Department said that just before 1 a.m. Sunday, an officer observed a physical fight outside the bar. During the altercation, an adult male, identified as the offender, allegedly shot another person with a handgun.
The officer then fired at the offender, who ran into the bar. Officers followed and found the offender suffering from a gunshot wound.
Both the offender and the initial victim received treatment from police but were later pronounced dead at separate hospitals.
The officer involved was not injured and has been placed on Critical Incident Leave in accordance with department policy. Names of those involved are being withheld while the investigation continues and families are notified.
