MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Police have arrested two men accused of sexually assaulting a woman during a night out in Miami Beach earlier this year.
Authorities said Geron Gjata, 34, and Frank Christian Sanders, 48, were taken into custody this week in connection with the April 2 sexual battery case.
According to the arrest report, the victim told police she had been out drinking at several bars and clubs with Gjata, a longtime friend from Chicago, when they met Sanders, who invited them back to his apartment.
At the apartment, the group continued drinking and also used cocaine, investigators said. The victim later woke up in pain, realizing Sanders was partially undressed while Gjata was asleep on the couch. She told officers the discomfort she felt was not consistent with cocaine use and contacted police immediately.
Police said Sanders voluntarily provided a DNA sample, while Gjata declined. Both men later met separately with investigators before being arrested.
Gjata was arrested Tuesday and remains held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $4,000 bond, while Sanders was taken into custody Wednesday. Jail records show Sanders’ bond status remains unclear.
Both men face charges of sexual battery and sexual battery involving multiple perpetrators.
