OMAHA, Neb. — Two Omaha residents died Friday after a crash on Highway 77 north of County Road H, according to the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 7 a.m., the 911 center received a report of a two-vehicle crash about three miles south of Wahoo.
Investigators said the first vehicle, driven by a man from Wahoo, struck a second vehicle driven by John Miller, 81, of Omaha.
Miller was transported by ambulance to Saunders Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A passenger in the same vehicle, Sheila Miller, 78, of Omaha, was taken to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln and later pronounced dead.
The driver from Wahoo was taken to Saunders Medical Center with minor injuries.
Authorities closed Highway 77 in both directions for approximately three hours.
The crash remains under investigation, but officials believe distracted driving may have contributed to the accident.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
