The Panhandle enjoyed another warm and sunny weekend. Despite being in the fall season, northwest Florida continues to see high temperatures and clear skies. Overnight Sunday, temperatures are expected to stay in the upper 60s inland and low 70s along the coast, with calm and comfortable conditions.
Monday will mirror Sunday’s weather, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s for both inland and coastal areas. As Tropical Storm Imelda moves parallel to Florida’s east coast, easterly winds will increase moisture in the Panhandle. While most of the region will remain dry, eastern counties including Liberty, Gulf, Franklin, and Calhoun may see isolated showers in the afternoon, with only a 10% chance of rain. Winds are expected to be breezy at 10-15 mph.
High pressure will dominate into early next week, keeping skies mostly sunny and temperatures warm. By Thursday, a backdoor cold front associated with Imelda is likely to move through, bringing breezy conditions, slightly cooler temperatures, and higher chances of rain by week’s end.
Tropical Storm Imelda is currently strengthening in the Caribbean and is expected to reach hurricane strength by early Tuesday. The storm will travel parallel to Florida’s east coast, causing heavy rainfall and high surf there. Imelda is expected to be pulled back into the Atlantic by Hurricane Humberto and is not anticipated to make landfall in the U.S. Neither Imelda nor Humberto poses a threat to the Panhandle.
