A gray morning sky and crisp December air set the stage for a wintry shift toward the Nebraska-Iowa border. According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, a fast-moving clipper system will produce snow from Friday evening to Saturday morning, with 1 to 3 inches expected across much of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
After a calm Thursday, the weather will grow colder and breezier by Friday. Forecasters predict light snow to fall after sunset, with slick areas forming quickly as temperatures drop into the teens overnight. Gusty northwest gusts of up to 20 mph may temporarily limit visibility during heavier snowfalls.
Drivers on I-80, I-29, and local roadways should prepare for icy bridges and ramps, especially early Saturday. Meteorologists warn that melting snow might refreeze, resulting in black ice and hazardous traffic before sunrise. The snow will end by midmorning Saturday, but the coldest air of December will follow.
Saturday’s highs will remain near 15°F, and by Sunday morning, lows will be in the single digits, with wind chills below zero in regions of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
Five-Day Outlook:
- Friday: Cloudy, chance of snow after 6 p.m., high 31°F, low 13°F.

- Sunday: Sunny, high 19°F, low 14°F.
- Monday: Mostly sunny, high 44°F.
