Wind Advisory Issued For Greater Portland Aand Vancouver Metro As Strong Gusts And Rain Move In

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a wind advisory, which will be in place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST tomorrow, warning residents of the Greater Portland/Vancouver Metro and neighboring areas of strong south winds estimated to reach 10 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 to 55 mph.

The affected areas extend beyond the metro areas, including the Central and Southern Willamette Valleys, the Northern and Central Coast Range Valleys, the Oregon Mountains, the Foothills of the Northern and Central Oregon Cascades, and down through the Willapa Hills to Pacific and Wahkiakum Counties. The advice states that unsecured objects are at risk of being blown around, tree limbs may be blown down, resulting in probable power outages, and it encourages prudence for people venturing out on the roads, particularly if driving high-profile vehicles.

In addition to gusty conditions, the NWS Portland office’s weather forecast predicts a spate of rainy days ahead, with an 80% chance of precipitation tonight, especially after 11 p.m., and a near-constant possibility of rain until Friday. The likelihood of rain remains, compounded by growing concerns for a snowy mix as the snow level is expected to fall to 2200 feet Friday night.

As Christmas approaches, the weather remains undeterred, with a 60% chance of rain on the holiday, tempering the festive atmosphere with the need for umbrellas and waterproof garments; travelers planning road trips or outdoor gatherings should stay informed of the conditions and prepare for disruptions that could range from slick streets to a brief sigh of foggy respite before cloud cover returns, according to the NWS.
