Food delivery apps are widely used in the U.S., and most orders go smoothly. But sometimes things go wrong, with drivers occasionally eating customers’ food or asking for extra money before completing deliveries.
TikTok user Liv (@livigoldi) recently shared a troubling experience with Uber Eats in a video that has gained over 300,000 views. She rarely orders delivery, but decided to get a pizza for a special occasion.
After waiting an hour and a half, Liv checked her phone and saw the driver lingering in her area for about 30 minutes without delivering the food. He then started moving away, even getting on the highway. Concerned, she called him.
The driver’s unusual behavior raises red flags
When asked about her order, the driver first claimed he had already delivered it. Then he asked repeatedly, “How much is the food worth to you?”, making Liv realize he wasn’t planning to deliver her pizza.
After hanging up, she drove to the Blaze Pizza location herself. During her drive, a woman claiming to be from Uber called, vaguely mentioning a mix-up but hung up when Liv referenced her order.
Liv picked up the pizza herself while still watching the original order moving on the app. The driver never marked it as delivered or canceled.
When Liv contacted Uber Eats support, she received confusing responses and only a 20% credit, with support claiming the driver was still on his way.
This type of scam isn’t new. Other users have reported delivery drivers demanding extra money before completing orders. Uber considers such behavior fraud and encourages customers to report it.
Food delivery apps continue to face scrutiny, especially as reports of food safety and delivery scams rise. TikTok users frequently expose these issues, highlighting both driver misconduct and restaurant food contamination.
