Woman Turns on Hotel Bathtub at Seattle Hilton at 1 a.m.—Then Water Pours From the Ceiling

A late-night hotel stay took an unexpected turn for TikTok user Isabella Olivas (@isabellamolivas), who says she encountered a bathtub unlike anything she had ever seen while staying at a Hilton hotel in Seattle.

In the video, filmed inside her hotel bathroom, Olivas explains that she had just checked in around 1 a.m. and planned to take a relaxing bath before going to bed.

“Um… I have never seen a bathtub like this before. I’m in a hotel. I just got in. It’s like 1 am, and I was gonna take a bath before bed,” she says.

When she turns the bathtub knob—complete with a small written notice hanging from it—water unexpectedly begins pouring down from the ceiling above the tub instead of from a traditional faucet.

“I have never seen anything like that, and I’m here alone, and that scared me so much,” Olivas says, adding that some of the water splashed onto her head. “That is… crazy. Why is it coming from the ceiling?”

The clip quickly went viral, racking up more than 2 million views.

So what kind of tub was it?

In a follow-up video, Olivas explained what the note attached to the bathtub control said.

“We love our tubs! We hope you do too. Please monitor the water level carefully as it does fill rapidly,” the notice read.

She pointed out that the message made no mention of water pouring from the ceiling. Olivas also showed that the bathroom already had a separate, standard shower, making the ceiling-fill bathtub even more confusing.

Speaking to The Mary Sue via Instagram, Olivas said she was genuinely surprised by the setup.

“I was shocked to find a bathtub I’d never seen before,” she said. “It made me laugh to discover water falling from the ceiling so I filmed a quick TikTok to laugh about it and had no idea it would get the response it did!”

She added that many commenters told her this style of tub has existed for years, which only added to her surprise.

“I think I was living under a rock,” she said. “I’m shocked this was my first time encountering one, and it seems like millions of others were just as surprised.”

Olivas said she never contacted the hotel about the tub and stressed that she had no complaints about the property itself.

“The Hilton was beautiful,” she said. “I’m happy the video made others laugh and hope we can all take life a little less seriously and find joy in the little things.”

Commenters weren’t impressed

While the tub fascinated some viewers, many weren’t sold on the design.

One commenter called it “upsetting,” saying it likely splashes everywhere and questioning whether the water stays hot by the time it reaches the tub. Another asked, “Why do hotels do too much?” referencing glass-walled bathrooms and other over-the-top designs.

Others joked about how loud and unnecessary it seemed, while one viewer asked whether it was a “rich people” or “poor people” feature. Olivas replied, “Definitely too rich for me!”

Hilton did not immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment.

Not Hilton’s first viral water moment

Hilton properties have drawn online attention for water-related mishaps before. A separate TikTok by user Grita Sudziute (@gritasudziute) went viral after a Hilton Garden Inn hot tub reportedly bleached her swimsuit.

Sudziute said she noticed a strong bleach smell after soaking for 45 minutes. After staff tested the water, employees began pumping fresh water into the hot tub to dilute the chemical levels.

“Thanks, Hilton Garden Inn,” she said.
