The Elgin City Council last week approved two new members of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department. Meeting May 6 at City Hall, the council wasted little time approving the addition of Brian Thiessen and Austin VanHorn to the fire department.

Thirteen seniors were awarded diplomas during commencement ceremonies Saturday at Elgin Public Schools.
In a ceremony which lasted close to an hour there was applause and tears as seniors, parents, family and friends celebrated this long-awaited day.
The senior class has collectively earned over 50 college credit hours and received over $80,000 in college scholarships. They scored higher on the ACT than the Nebraska average and, as seniors, have an average GPA of 3.9.” She challenged the class to:
• Be good to people
• Be game changers
• Be worthy
Giving the ‘Charge to the Class,’ as part of graduation ceremonies at Elgin Public Schools on Saturday will be Dr. Mark Adler.
Seniors at Elgin Public and Pope John XXIII Central Catholic high schools have been looking forward to this coming weekend for months now.
Graduation exercises will be held Saturday and Sunday at the schools.
The Elgin Chamber of Commerce/Community Club met last Wednesday to discuss May/June activities including the community-wide garage sales, the tractor pull and Vetch Days.
The garage sales will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 31st and June 1st. Individuals can set their times and days. They can contact the Elgin Review to be included on the printed and online map.
A celebration of a year’s worth of achievement and the election of new officers highlighted the 57th annual Elgin FFA Banquet held Monday night.
FFA President Samuel Hemenway handed the gavel to Taylor Beckman who will serve as the chapter president during 2024/25. He is the son of Eric and Anney Beckman.
