Father Matthew Gutowski is being reassigned.

According to the St Michael’s Catholic Church bulletin, “We are excited to announce that beginning in June, Father Matthew Gutowski will be the new pastor of Northern Rural Parishes of Family J.

Those parishes include St. Michael’s in Albion, St. Anthony Catholic Church, of Cedar Rapids, and St. Edward Catholic Church.

Lindsay is getting an apartment complex.

The Lindsay Village Board of Trustees voted during its May 6 meeting to approve Quinten Rowley’s building permit to construct a two-story, 14-unit multi-family dwelling on East First Street.

The permit is approved contingent upon Rowley have the property staked to determine its exact location.

Ott defeats Pfeifer

The only area contested race saw challenger Joe Ott defeat incumbent Ron Pfeifer in the Platte County Board of Supervisors District 4 race in Tuesday’s Primary Election.

Unofficially, Ott received 453 votes, and Pfeifer 368, who has spent 27 years serving District 4.

Community turns out for Riggs, Deco

The America Red Cross held a blood drive May 8 for the Espiritu and Coble families. Deco Espiritu and Riggs Coble, preschoolers at Platte Center Elementary School, have acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Two different directions

One moves on, the other waits.

The Archdiocese of Omaha’s decision to close Humphrey St. Francis and Lindsay Holy Family grades 7-12 at the end of the school year, and create a new school — Archangels Catholic High School — has resulted in two sides, those who have been tasked to carry out the decision by the Archdiocese and those who have appealed to the Vatican, asking the decision be investigated.
